How No Worries Began: From Dream to Reality

A Dream Takes Shape

For as long as I can remember, I dreamed of a career caring for animals. Like so many kids, I wanted to work with animals when I grew up - but unlike many, I never wavered from that goal. Every choice I made growing up was guided by that dream.

In high school, I focused my classes on becoming a veterinarian and landed my first (and only) job as a kennel assistant at Yorkshire Veterinary Clinic, now known as Perry Pet-Yorkshire. I worked after school and on weekends, gaining hands-on experience that reinforced my love for animal care. Determined to make my dream a reality, I enrolled at the University of Missouri (Mizzou) in the Pre-Vet program.

Detours and Determination

But life doesn’t always go as planned. Homesick and struggling with out-of-state tuition, I made the difficult decision to return home after my first year. Still focused on my goal, I continued working at the veterinary clinic while setting my sights on Cornell University’s Pre-Vet program. When I wasn’t accepted, I knew it was time to explore a new path.

That’s when I turned to veterinary technician school. I was accepted into Alfred State’s program, and in just 1.5 years, I became a licensed veterinary technician in 2004. For nearly 20 years, I worked as a vet tech at Perry Pet, loving every moment. My time there wasn’t just professionally fulfilling - it’s also where I met the love of my life, Hayden.

Throughout my career, my dad often encouraged me to consider owning my own veterinary business. While New York laws prevent non-veterinarians from owning practices, the idea of running a boarding facility stayed in the back of my mind.

The Leap to No Worries

Then, in 2018, that “maybe someday” dream became an opportunity too good to pass up. A previously owned boarding facility came on the market, and with my husband’s unwavering support, we decided to take the leap.

Balancing a full-time job, a growing family of four Labrador Retrievers (yes, four!), and this new venture wasn’t easy. But we saw a need for something better - boarding services that provide top-notch care and give pet owners peace of mind.

Our Mission: No Worry Care

In June 2018, we launched No Worries Pet Resort & Spa with one simple goal: to give our clients a true “no worry” vacation by offering professional, veterinary-based care.

Thanks to my background as a veterinary technician, we’re able to offer personalized, stress-free care for every guest. Being a smaller facility means we get to know each pet personally and tailor their experience to minimize anxiety. For us, it’s not about numbers—it’s about what’s best for each guest. Our incredible team of long-term staff shares that same philosophy. They treat every pet as their own, ensuring that the highest standards of care are met daily.

What’s Next?

This journey from childhood dreams to launching No Worries Pet Resort was full of twists, turns, and lessons learned. But it’s only the beginning! In the next post, I’ll share what it was like to transform an existing facility into the welcoming space we have today and the steps we took to set ourselves apart in the world of pet care.
